Biometric Security

I know absolutely nothing about this topic. Honestly, I don't even know why I chose it.

Questions:

What is Biometric Security?
Why is it used?
What is it used for?
What is it protecting?

Things I learned:

- Biometric security is a way to protect electronic and technological devices by using something from the human body to access it (fingerprint, iris, tongue).

- A device can have many biometric ways of security and some can just have one. Only the person who has it's fingerprint for example registered, is the only one that can access the device.

- Retina scans may interfere with the proper functioning of the device if not scanned properly.

- Gathering the information of the owner of the device (such as his/her fingerprint) is associated with criminal behavior and it can have negative ramifications.

- There are two different types of eye scans (retina and iris). The iris scan is less invasive and less damaging for you eye but weaker. The retina scan is more invasive and more dangerous to the eye itself but a lot safer in terms of security.

- Voice commands are also part of biometric security.

- Fingerprint identification is starting to be used in printers

- Biometric security is now being used in amusement parks that get a lot of visitors to have a better control of their customers.

Summary:

Investigating this topic was really interesting because biometric security is one of the most or the most efficient and safe way to have private information away from other people. You can notice that biometric security is used in every single action movie (mostly the ones that have to do with futuristic topics) and nowadays in computers such as Lenovo you can see that they have fingerprint scanners. IN the future maybe passwords won't be used anymore because of this more sophisticated way of keeping information in devices safe. Even here at CNG the gates are incorporating the use of fingerprint to register the entrance to school.

Last Question:

In how much time will biometric security be used in school computer labs?

Google Day #1

The goals for I have for today are:

1. Learn how to create a successful "brow-sable" application (at least get started in it). Here are some links that will help me accomplish this goal.

http://cloud.google.com/products/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=appengine-search-global (This website is very helpful because it walks you through the steps you need to follow to create a successful application, also it provides different tutorials for different types of apps that are focused in different topics. This will be very helpful since I want an app that is focused in one topic specifically.)

http://www.appsbar.com/?gclid=CKOrzbP_xrICFQP0nAodZX8AXw (This second website consists in a tutorial that has three steps to create an application and also leaving on in the web for people to see. It also allows you to connect it directly with different social networks so you can make the publicity that you want to give your brand new application easier.)

2. Learn even more about the human body itself to end up understanding more how this amazing machine works and how can it be exposed to different types of diseases.

https://www.biodigitalhuman.com/ (This is one of the most amazing anatomy and medical website I have ever visited because this shows you and lets you browse through the human body with the different systems united or separately. It also provides different diseases that any of these organs within the systems you choose to browse in can be exposed to. I want to give special thanks to one of my best friends Nicolás Cruz, he was the one that showed me this website.)

http://www.funtrivia.com/trivia-quiz/SciTech/Anatomy-Alphabet-245492.html (This is a website that lets you take a quiz of 25 questions about the human body. The questions include multiple choice and free answer. In the free answer questions you need to type in the answer and in the multiple choice they give you 4 possible answers. It is also timed so you can see how much time did you take to answer each question. In the end it gives you a score. This trivia helps you learn a lot because when you get a answer wrong it corrects you with true information.)

3. Learn about oncology more deeply (cancer).

http://emedicine.medscape.com/oncology (This website offers you the possibility to look at almost every single type of cancer classified by location and by type. In each tab that you click the website offers you with information about the cancer itself, diagnosis, treatment, staging and prognosis. The majority of the things that I want my dictionary to have are listed in this website.)

http://www.thelancet.com/collections/oncology?collexcode=119 (This website is slightly different than the other one because they list the cancers by system like respiratory, endocrine, digestive, etc. It also include visual information like videos and clinical pictures that were taken during the procedures made to cure cancer. Also there are articles about each one.)

Next class I want to get knowledge (deep) about cancer.

Google 20% Project

For my Google 20% propject I nwill create an Oncology Dictionary where you can find all the necessary information for a good knowledge of what cancer is. I am planning to create an application where you can freely search and browse through all the categories of cancer. It will include the information itself and media to have a better knowledge. The skills that I am going to enforce in this project specifically are:

          - App cretating: create and use an online application.

I am going to present my project publically by letting an individual eprson coming up to the computer and browse around the application itlself. This will show the entire class what is cancer, how is it created, the different types of cancer and how do we treat it. Later on you can acces the napplication on your own if you want to learn some more about this disease.
